Ingredients

Scale
  • 3½ cups all-purpose flour
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 packet (2¼ tsp) active dry yeast
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 1 cup whole milk, warmed
  • ¼ cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 tbsp red food coloring
  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, softened for frosting
  • 4 cups powdered sugar

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, combine flour, sugar, yeast, baking powder, and salt. Mix warm milk, melted butter, egg, food coloring, and vanilla in another bowl. Combine both mixtures to form soft dough.
  2. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5-7 minutes until smooth. Let it rise in an oiled bowl covered with plastic wrap for about 1 hour.
  3. Prepare the filling by mixing softened butter, brown sugar, and cinnamon in a small bowl.
  4. Roll out the dough into a rectangle. Spread the filling evenly over the dough and roll tightly into a log. Slice into equal pieces.
  5. Place rolls in a greased baking dish and allow them to rise again for about 30 minutes.
  6. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake rolls for about 25-30 minutes until golden brown.
  7. While baking, prepare the cream cheese frosting by beating softened cream cheese and butter until smooth; gradually add powdered sugar and milk to achieve desired consistency.
  8. Frost warm rolls before serving.
