  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 cup shortening (melted)
  • Cinnamon sugar mixture (1/4 cup sugar + 1.5 teaspoons cinnamon)
  • Glaze (4.67 cups powdered sugar + 2.5 tablespoons honey + 1 tablespoon melted butter)

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, yeast, and salt. In another bowl, mix warm water, honey, egg, and vanilla until smooth; add melted shortening.
  2. Combine wet and dry ingredients in a stand mixer on low speed until mixed.
  3. Knead on medium speed for about 8 minutes until sticky but workable; shape into a ball in an oiled bowl.
  4. Cover and let rise for 1 to 2 hours until nearly doubled.
  5. Prepare the cinnamon sugar mixture while dough rises.
  6. Roll out dough into a rectangle; sprinkle with cinnamon sugar and roll tightly.
  7. Cut into 1-inch pieces and let rise again on a parchment-lined baking sheet for about 45 minutes.
