Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb beef sirloin or flank steak
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce (divided)
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch (divided)
  • 1 tbsp rice vinegar
  • 1 tbsp oyster sauce
  • 1 tbsp hoisin sauce
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil (divided)
  • 1 red bell pepper, sliced
  • 1 green bell pepper, sliced
  • ½ cup water or beef broth

Instructions

  1. Marinate the beef: Combine sliced beef with 2 tbsp soy sauce, 1 tbsp cornstarch, rice vinegar, and sesame oil in a mixing bowl; let marinate for at least 15 minutes.
  2. Prepare the sauce: Mix remaining soy sauce, oyster sauce, hoisin sauce, sugar, cornstarch, and water in a small bowl until smooth.
  3. Cook the beef: Heat 1 tbsp of oil in a skillet over high heat. Add marinated beef and cook until browned (about 2–3 minutes per side). Remove from skillet.
  4. Stir-fry vegetables: In the same skillet, add remaining oil and stir-fry bell peppers and onion for about 3–4 minutes until tender-crisp. Add garlic and ginger; cook for another 30 seconds.
  5. Combine: Return beef to the skillet, pour in the prepared sauce, stir well to coat everything evenly. Cook for an additional few minutes until the sauce thickens slightly.
  6. Serve: Garnish with black pepper and chopped green onions before serving hot over steamed rice or noodles.
