  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon pure peppermint extract
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 teaspoon red food coloring
  • For Glaze: 1 cup powdered sugar, 1/8 teaspoon peppermint extract, 1-2 tablespoons milk

Instructions

  1. In a stand mixer, beat together butter and powdered sugar until fluffy.
  2. Add egg, vanilla, and peppermint extracts; mix well.
  3. Gradually incorporate flour and salt until combined.
  4. Divide dough in half; color one half with red food coloring.
  5. Shape each half into discs and chill for at least one hour.
  6. Preheat oven to 375°F.
  7. Roll tablespoon-sized pieces from each colored dough into logs and twist together to form candy cane shapes.
  8. Chill again for about 15 minutes before baking for 10-12 minutes until lightly golden.
  9. Mix glaze ingredients and drizzle over cooled cookies.
