  • 2 teaspoons vanilla
  • 2 tablespoons molasses (not blackstrap)
  • 3 tablespoons milk or heavy cream
  • 1/4 teaspoon vanilla
  • 2 cups old-fashioned oats
  • 2 cups, plus 4 tablespoons all-purpose flour, spooned and leveled
  • 2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
  • 1 cup light brown sugar, packed
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 cups powdered sugar, sifted

Instructions

  1. Begin by melting the butter in a saucepan over medium heat until it turns golden brown, then allow to cool slightly.
  2. In a separate bowl, whisk together the oats, flour, baking soda, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt.
  3. Beat the cooled brown butter with both sugars until creamy, then add eggs one at a time along with vanilla and molasses.
  4. Gradually mix the dry ingredients into the wet mixture until just combined.
  5. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Drop spoonfuls of dough onto parchment-lined baking sheets and bake for about 10 minutes or until edges are lightly golden.
  6. Cool cookies on a rack before drizzling with a glaze made from powdered sugar mixed with milk.
